As a lawyer, Ms Resnick brings a great deal of valuable work experience in helping individuals successfully navigate the varied complexities of today's society.
Denise Resnick graduated from the University of Western Ontario with a Bachelor of Arts with a concentration in English. She then completed a Bachelor of Education at Nipissing University.
Ms Resnick subsequently taught elementary and secondary school over a period of twenty years in various educational settings including Attawapiskat, the Toronto District School Board, the York Region District School Board and the Ottawa Carleton District School Board. She taught English, English as a Second Language and Drama in high school. During her teaching career, she completed a Master of Education (Supervision and Administration) program at Niagara University. As an ESL specialist teacher, Ms Resnick became experienced in understanding the variety of challenges that new Canadians face in adapting to their new home country.
The Criminal Justice system is complex and difficult to understand. Ms Resnick is well versed in explaining complicated concepts in a comprehensive manner. Experience working as a high school teacher gave her a solid understanding of the many challenges and difficulties that youth are confronted with today. Ms Resnick maintains a keen interest in youth matters and is committed to ensuring that they are given the proper legal advocacy and social supports necessary to ensure success.
While articling in Ottawa, Ms Resnick had the opportunity to work with clients from diverse backgrounds and needs. She is committed to social justice initiatives and has volunteered for several community service organizations for a number of years. In Ottawa, Ms Resnick worked as a volunteer for the Elizabeth Fry Society of Ottawa running recreational programs at the detention centre and offering court support to individuals in conflict with the law. Presently, she is a member of Board of Directors for the Elizabeth Fry Society of Simcoe County. She is a member of the Criminal Lawyers Association, the Simcoe County Law Association and the Ontario College of Teachers.
